Georgia O'Keeffe GEORGIA O’KEEFFE was born in November 15, 1887 and died at March 6, 1986 (at age 98).She was born in America and her parents were farmers. Georgia O’Keeffe was second of seven O’Keeffe children. At age of 10 Georgia had decided to become an artist. Georgia and her sister learned art from a local watercolorist Sara Mann. Georgia O’Keeffe attended high school at Sacred Heart Academy in Madison, Wisconsin as a border between 1901 and 1902.In fall 1902, O’Keeffe’s family moved to Peacock Hill in Williamsburg, Virginia. But Georgia stayed at Wisconsin with her aunt and attended Madison High School then she joined her family at 1903.Georgia O’Keeffe studied at School of the Art Institute of Chicago from 1905 to 1906.In 1908, Georgia O’Keeffe won a League’s William Merritt Chase still-life prize for her oil painting Dead Rabbit with Copper Pot. She took a job in Chicago as a commercial artist. She did not paint for few years. Georgia O’Keeffe said that smell of turpentine made her sick. She was inspired to paint again in 1912.From 1912-14, she taught art in the public schools in Amarillo in the Texas Panhandle. She attended Teachers Collage of Columbia University from 1912-15, where she took classes from Dow. At December 11, 1924 Georgia O’Keeffe got married with Alfred Stieglitz.
